Boston’s “Status Quo” competes on MTV show

As an avid dance enthusiast–or at least an avid observer. My step ball changes are somewhat lethal–I pretty much become glued to any TV show that lets “average people” show off their skills, win the hearts of the public, win the competition and live happy ever after. Aww. Well, my new obsession is MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew. And we have a local group competing!

Dorchester's

They’re called Status Quo, with members from Boston and Dorchester. The show premiered on Feb 7th (after hosting a series of auditions, where judges traveled to different parts of the country to find the groups to compete in the show.) Status Quo is one of the more acrobatic groups with a ton of personality, so represent your boys!

And check out their performance on Feb 7th if you missed it. The jump? Um, hi. Are you human?

Edit: YouTube took off the last video. :(

This is from week 2. If they take this one off too, I PROMISE to put up week 3. Yes. I am that dedicated.

WAIT!

This is NOT the first TV appearance for some of these guys. E-Knock and Jamal of the group also auditioned on Season 3 of So You Think You Can Dance. I was also obsessed with this show when it aired this summer, but I had no idea that these two guys were from Boston when I saw them.

After Status Quo’s segment on MTV, I instantly recognized Jamal as the guy from SYTYCD with the funniest audition EVER. Seriously. And…Jamal is also is a Berklee student and a dance teacher!

Dear Jamal,
Will you teach me to dance? I want to be you.
Love,
RepCor

Anyhow, check out Jamal’s hilarious audition. It starts with E-Knock’s crazy-jumps-of-doom and then goes to Jamal’s turn. Keep watching. At about 3 minutes is the funny stuff. I love it.

I know! And I got so scared. Hahaha. If they got eliminated…? Man. I’m not sure what I would have done.

    Yeah, they’re the best.

i just watched that second video of them on SYTYCD…hilarious! the part when the judge cuts the swing music out on him while he’s snapping is so funny.

i think those guys have a shot to be one of the last 2-3 if they keep it up. kaba modern and jabawockeez are their top competition though…i think kaba modern will take the big prize though. they are always tight.

Thank you for posting this!! I was sure as soon as I saw them on stage that I remembered Jamal. He was unfogettable. LOL.. But I forgot about E-Knock. Thanks for the detective work.

they are one of the worst groups, i can’t believe they’re still on the show, but fans still vote completely biased, and kept them on, despite having mistakes in their routines TWICE, i couldn’t believe they were in the top two, and i can’t believe that people vote for them as america’s best dance crew, but they aren’t great dancers, they’re great athletes, except for the giant, he just sucks, they’re not as good as the other groups in dancing, but fans keep voting for them because they throw you a flip or two

  6. Rebecca Corliss Says:

Ooh. That’s rough. But I mean, of course a person will “vote biased.” You vote for who you want to win. Maybe the show has a really strong NE following? And that “giant” happens to be awesome!

I’m not going to lie though, the Jabbawockies are fantastic.

  7. Jamal Says:

I have to agree with bob, they “aren’t great dancers, but they’re great athletes”. They may be representing us in boston, instead they are doing a really bad job at it. I’m just confused how the many flips is considered dancing compared to the rest of the dance crews. It’s like live in color had booty shaking and yet they were way better. You guys may feel that they are awesome. But other than their incredible acrobatic flips and their spunk… what else is so great about their dances. The rest of the other dance crews have countlessly put in different styles, but still status quo uses the same style. It’s very repetitive. I guess America is just amused by their flips and jumps. I see a lot of energy in their dance, but another thing, where is the passion? I see so much energy, but little passion. i still don’t get how they came so far.

  8. A Big Fan Says:

Status Quo is an inspiration. Their personality, dance moves, motivation, charisma, they are Numero Uno. E-Knock, Jamal and the rest of the crew, keep doing what you’re doing !!

  9. deja Says:

I thought I saw Jamal from somewhere. But E-Knock I forgot about him. Jamal is so funny. To bad they didn’t win.
